"Say Cheese!"

As part of the "Double #2" format, Kathrin Sonntag combines new and existing works under the title "Sobjects". This word finding between subject and object is programmatic for her artistic practice, in which everyday objects elude the usual interpretation and are transformed into stubborn protagonists. Sonntag investigates the meanings we ascribe to objects and how they influence our perception. With her collections of objects, installative interventions and photographs, the artist draws attention to a world of unruly "counter-objects". She brings together things that look like other things, shows photographs whose objects fall out of the background and presents us with objects that send out contradictory messages between their form and their function.
