Of figures and figurations

The exhibition "My Protagonists", curated by Simone Neuenschwander and featuring the artists Catherine Biocca, Diego Kohli, Jonathan Penca, Elif Saydam, Noemi Pfister and Lea von Wintzingerode, focuses on figurative art, which has been in the spotlight since modernism and especially since the 1980s. Far removed from idealized depictions, the bodies often appear distorted, exaggerated or placed in absurd contexts. They mirror the contradictions of the present and reflect the tensions between individuality and society. The communication between the figures and their visual contact with the viewer is central to this. How are these communications reflected in the works of a young generation of artists?
